Dog Diggs

Dog Diggs

Dog Kennels in Wilmington, NC

Our dog kennels, or as we like to call them, dog diggs, provide a mini vacation for your canine friend. We want pet parents to feel comfortable trusting us to take care of their dogs while they are unable to do so, whether they are heading out of town for vacation or have guests staying at their homes.

We provide a comfortable dog-hotel to keep dogs engaged and safe during their stay. All dog kennels provide a raised bed, natural light, and a TV for those overnighting in our luxury suites. A minimum of two hours of outdoor time (weather permitting) is included for our boarding guests, but there’s always the option to join a daycare group. Boarders are taken out for potty breaks every few hours during the day. Speakers throughout our facility play fear-free music to help calm nervous dogs. Our dog kennels are available for pet owners throughout the Wilmington, NC area.

Our staff is trained to administer only oral and/or topical medications. Should your dog need any injectable medication or treatments (either subcutaneous or intramuscular), they must board at Paws & Claws Animal Hospital.

Please be sure to read our policies regarding your dog and his or her stay located at the end of this page.

Dog cabins - Wilmington, NC

Cabins are stackable mini-runs for our pint-sized pups measuring 3ft W x 3ft T x 4ft D. They are extra spacious should they want to room with an equally pint-sized family member or two.

Quiet Cottages are made of fiberglass, which makes these diggs warmer and quieter than the stainless steel version. The larger two measure 3ft W x 2.5ft T x 2.3ft D, and six smaller ones measure 2.3ft W x 2.5ft T x 2.3ft D. These spaces are perfect for the little breeds.

Runs are approximately 4ft W x 6ft D and are open-topped with a row of windows running above for natural light. Doors are tempered glass with a privacy panel along the bottom for the pups who would like a little alone time.

Hands-Off Runs (pictured) are specially equipped runs with a pulley-lift dog door in the wall for those dogs who don't like people other than their parents, and we all know those parents need a vacation, too! Fully enclosed outdoor runs on the other side of the pulley door allow these dogs their outside time without being handled in any way.

Dog Kennel Policies

Required Vaccines to be our guest:

  • Current on Rabies, DA2PP (Distemper/Parvo), Bordetella, Canine Influenza Vaccine (CIV), and proof of a negative Fecal Exam. For Bordetella, if injectable was given, it must have been given within 6 months, or if oral or intranasal was given, it must have been within 1 year.
  • For Bordetella that is given via intranasal, the wait time to board/play is only 3 days.
  • A trivalent Bordetella (bordetella/parainfluenza/adenovirus) is recommended for increased protection of kennel cough.
  • Leptospirosis and Canine Influenza vaccines are not required, but it is strongly encouraged for those at risk.

Other Policies:

  • We encourage all dogs coming for boarding to be up to date on flea and tick control and require they are current on a heartworm preventative (to include a broad spectrum intestinal parasite dewormer). If fleas are identified on your dog during their stay, we will treat with a Capstar at the owner’s expense.
  • Dogs with oral papillomatosis cannot be admitted for lodging, as this is a contagious virus.
  • Dogs who are coughing, experiencing diarrhea, or showing other signs of potentially contagious diseases will not be admitted for lodging.
  • We encourage our guests to come with their own food to minimize the risk of GI distress during their stay.
  • The Diggs requests you provide your pet's food labeled, with directions, in a sealed plastic storage container.
  • Due to human and pet health risks we cannot handle or feed raw-food diets, including freeze-dried versions, at our diggs.
  • If your pet needs preventive care or routine medical needs during their stay at The Diggs, please contact Paws & Claws Animal Hospital to schedule an appointment and inform them your pet will be at our facility. Paws & Claws will then coordinate with us to bring your pet over at that time.
  • Each guest is required have an emergency contact and pickup person. This is particularly important during hurricane season (June 1 – November 30) as we cannot predict inclement weather and cannot require our staff to stay if there has been an evacuation notice for New Hanover County.
